About Pernoi

Two chefs behind some of metro Detroit’s most celebrated restaurants are teaming up for a new project in Birmingham. Chefs Takashi Yagihashi and Luciano DelSignore will bring Pernoi, a restaurant focused on global cuisine, to the shuttered Cafe Via space at 310 E Maple Rd., the Detroit Free Press reports.

With restaurants such as Slurping Turtle in Ann Arbor and shuttered Michelin-starred restaurantTakashi in Chicago among other Japanese restaurants, chef Yagihashi is well-known throughout the Midwest. In metro Detroit he’s perhaps best remembered for his acclaimed former Farmington Hills establishment, Tribute. On the flipside, DelSignore is known for his Southfield-based Italian dining destination Bacco Ristorante and for co-founding rapidly expanding pizza chain Bigalora Wood-Fired Cucina.

The 2,700-square-foot Pernoi is being design by Kyle Evans who will give the interior a “luxury yacht” finish, DelSignore tells the Free Press. The restaurant will seat only 66 people in the dining room and bar with an additional 35 seats on the patio.

Pernoi will focus on cuisines from around the world with a primarily a la carte and an optional prix fixe menu. DelSignore and Yagihashi plan to oversee the day-to-day operations at the restaurant together. From the bar, customers can expect to see every new restaurant’s favorite accessory — a high-ball machine — as well as Japanese whiskey champagne, and absinthe.
