Position Description:Job Title: Executive Chef, Tallgrass Taphouse
Reports to: General Manager, Tallgrass Taphouse
Location: Manhattan, KS

Job Overview:

The Executive Chef is responsible for the overall operations of the kitchen. Their purpose is to develop and maintain menu items, daily and seasonal specials, as well effectively manage the kitchen team to achieving the highest standard of food production. This is a full time, salaried position.

Key Responsibilities and Position Summary:

- Responsible for menu development and daily specials

- Responsible for all kitchen staff including hiring, training, scheduling, and resolving conflicts

- Ensures that all food is prepared to recipe standards and served at the proper temperature and presentation

- Creates an experience that every guest seeks to repeat

- Responsible for organization, cleanliness and safety of all areas and aspects of the kitchen by maintaining State of Kansas Health Department standards

- Organization of all back of house aspects including, but not limited to; food storage areas, prep lists, food orders, and scheduling

- Control and manage the food costs in line with the budget and source ingredients in accordance with the restaurants needs

- Responsible for working with representatives in placing food and equipment orders

- Controls labor costs by constantly training and educating team members

- Conducts timely performance assessments and fairly administers wage changes

- Demonstrates a working understanding of labor cost control through effectively scheduling and proactive management

Knowledge and Skills:

- Strong leader

- Excellent restaurant operations background

- Menu and recipe development

- Able to communicate with individuals at all levels of the restaurant


- Degree preferred in hospitality management or culinary arts

- 3+ years of managing full service kitchen
