|Position Description:||21c Museum Hotels is seeking an Executive Chef to help shape and create a new restaurant/F&B program for 21c Durham to add to the 21c family (Proof on Main, Metropole, The Hive, Garage Bar.) |
21c Museum Hotels is rehabilitating the historic Hill Building in downtown Durham. 21c Durham will support the city's renewal and serve as an additional catalyst for culture, entertainment and economic growth.
Like its sister properties, 21c Durham will be woven into the fabric of downtown, welcoming both visitors and members of the community to experience its rotating exhibitions, participate in its programs and enjoy its culinary offerings. This project is currently under construction and is expected to open in early 2015.
At a glance: 125 guest rooms, 10,500 square feet of exhibition and event space, full-service, chef-driven restaurant, lounge, fitness center, and spa services.

Reports To: SVP Operations
-Some college education.
-Three or more years of sous chef experience.
-Previous job in a kitchen line position.
-Solid computer knowledge in Microsoft office programs.
-Previous press and media exposure experience.
-Must be able to show enthusiasm for restaurant/property and come from a place of yes.

21c Museum Hotels is focused on creating unique, chef driven restaurants that are as much a part of the community as the hotel. 21c's team oversees the process from design to construction, concept development, branding, chef selection and menu development. Once open, the 21c team continues to oversee the restaurant's operations. Currently, 21c operates a diverse roster of restaurants including Proof on Main, located in 21c Louisville; Metropole, located in 21c Cincinnati; The Hive, located in 21c Bentonville and Garage Bar in Louisville, KY.
Additionally, 21c supports each restaurant with national PR and marketing efforts to ensure that our chefs are peers with the best in the country. Our restaurants have been featured in a variety of national lifestyle and epicurean publications including Esquire, Bon Appetit, Food & Wine and GQ. Troubled by development encroaching upon rural Kentucky?s farmlands, preservationists and contemporary art collectors Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson sought to reverse the trend toward suburban sprawl by making a considerable contribution toward revitalization efforts in their hometown. Pairing this desire with a second of their passions, to make contemporary art a part of more peoples? daily lives, the couple embarked on a journey to create both an economic driver for the community and an oasis where art challenges and amuses, stimulates conversation and provokes new ideas.
Ideas into action
The pair partnered with world-renowned architect Deborah Berke to reimagine and rehabilitate a series of 19th century tobacco and Bourbon warehouses along downtown Louisville?s West Main Street into a boutique hotel and a contemporary art museum. Could art and commerce coexist in harmony? Brown and Wilson trusted their intuition and sought to test their theory.
In 2006 they opened 21c Museum Hotel Louisville. Much more than just a place to spend the night, 21c is an innovative union of genuine Southern hospitality, thoughtful design, and culinary creativity ? all anchored by world-class contemporary art by today?s emerging and internationally acclaimed artists (hence the name, paying homage to the 21st century).
A museum as alive as its art
21c Louisville quickly grew from novel idea to a modern epicenter for culture, activity, and artistic expression. With rotating exhibitions of works by living artists, site-specific installations, regular cultural programming and unique events, 21c visitors keep coming back and sharing the dynamic experience with friends.
The public embrace of 21c has been astounding and local and national critics from publications such as Travel + Leisure, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, National Geographic Traveler, and W too note and applauded 21c Museum Hotel?s unique experience.
