SALT Restaurant offers a terrific opportunity for an outstanding rising chef.

We seek a chef for seasonal position to work collaboratively with the Executive Chef/Owner to execute a menu of contemporary dishes grounded in classic French technique. Responsibilities include prep and line work, developing market-driven specials, assisting managing of kitchen staff, cost control, and maintaining inventory and quality control in the kitchen.

Candidates must be detail-oriented and skilled in and interested in fine cuisine. Candidates should have experience in high-quality small restaurant settings, including kitchen management experience, supervision of staff, line work, inventory control, and purchasing. Culinary school grads and ServeSafe certification are pluses. SALT offers seasonal positions, running from May through September. Housing assistance for key staff is a possibility.

SALT Restaurant is an intimate new seasonal restaurant in the island of Vinalhaven, Maine, one of Maine's largest lobster ports. It is a 40-seat venue offering local fish and shellfish, as well as local meats, greens, and vegetables. SALT?s dishes will be simple, delicious, and beautiful; refined, yet not fussy or precious. SALT will offer fine wines and full bar service. SALT will operate from Memorial Day through mid-September, serving dinner, 5 nights a week. Vinalhaven is 80 miles up the coast from Portland, Maine, and about a dozen miles offshore.
