a. kitchen, the critically acclaimed, award winning restaurant on Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square seeks an exceptional and unique chef to continue our ongoing approach to compelling and innovative food and casual yet sophisticated dining. See our website for images of the restaurant and current menus in order to begin to understand our approach to dining.
The special candidate we seek should cook modern, but not trendy food, that has distinct personality, with deliciousness being key. The food we seek should be flavorful, not fussy in plating, but when possible, memorable.
The best candidate will also be a good communicator, positive in spirit, collaborative with all key personnel at the restaurant, and simply, an all around good person. Managing a tight food cost and payroll is also very important. Experience cooking at some of this country's or Europe's more interesting restaurants is a necessity. Media savviness, and enjoyment of promoting the restaurant also preferred.
A love of wines with personality and an appreciation for food and beverage interaction would be appreciated in a candidate, as a. kitchen is the Best of Philly winner for wine list with over 325 selections, almost all chosen for their 'natural' approach, singularity, and food-friendliness.
This is a tremendous, high-profile opportunity for a candidate to excel and to make their mark on Philadelphia's and the country's dining culture. While a. kitchen already possesses an excellent spirit and has a distinct approach to food and service, we seek a Chef who can implement his own, idiosyncratic viewpoint to the restaurant as we move forward.
The Executive Chef will be responsible for menu planning, provisioning, food preparation, and galley sanitation. The position demands creativity on a daily basis, excellent communication skills, and the ability to maintain the highest of culinary standards.
Applicant should also work well under pressure, be organized, flexible, self-motivated, willing to work long hours, and have a great sense of humor. Supervisory experience is crucial as well.
Requirements include a minimum of 5 years full-service, high quality restaurant experience.
We have announced that our current chef will be leaving in the Spring or early Summer to start his own venture, exact timing TBD, so this allows us to make a careful search for the best candidate to lead the restaurant going forward.
