Position Description:
StarChefs.com, an online magazine for the culinary industry, is growing fast. We are building our in-house events team and are now accepting applications for a creative, innovative, and food-savvy Event Planning Intern to assist our Events Manager. We're looking for a dedicated, ambitious intern with a great eye for detail and a keen sense of organization. StarChefs.com's International Chefs Congress and Rising Stars Galas are some of the most important culinary events in the world, and you'll get to help make it all happen. We need someone to start immediately and work until at least the end of September.
An internship at StarChefs is a substantive and challenging work experience. You will have the opportunity to develop and apply specific skills (i.e. research, organization, adaptability), as well as the opportunity to network with leading chefs while organizing our events. You will work with the Events Manager to plan, organize, and assist in the production of StarChefs.com events, including the New York Rising Stars Revue and the StarChefs.com International Chefs Congress. The best candidate will have a minimum of 6 months of internship or work experience in a fast-paced organization, preferably with an event planning firm, hotel, or culinary organization. This is the perfect opportunity for someone who desires to organize culinary events to take the next step toward his or her professional future. Experience working with chefs, organizing culinary events, and editing / working with recipes a plus but not required.
Besides the above characteristics, the ideal candidate fits the following description: - high level of energy, - persistent determination to get the job done - work well both independently and as a part of a small, dedicated team - multi-tasker who pays attention to detail - balance of energy and the ability to remain calm during a very chaotic event and period of preparation for that event - great communication skills (writing, phone and interpersonal) - understand working in a non-traditional small office environment - basic French and/or Spanish (a plus but not required) - self-starter capable of doing unsupervised work when necessary.
Because we are a small company (19 employees), you have the opportunity to really make an impact on the company and the service we provide. Internships are full-time for 3 months minimum and are unpaid. Internships are eligible for college credit. Last year, StarChefs hired on 3 of its interns for full-time employment.
