Looking for a part-time chef position. The applicant should be interested in the benefits of serving local and organic foods, willing to work in a start up environment, self sufficient, and flexible. This is a start up business, so it is important that you are motivated by the concept and mission of the company, as well as willing to fluctuate with the ebb and flow of the business. You will work in a shared commercial kitchen in San Francisco to prepare all of the meals, pack, and label for co-workers to the sell at the commuter storefront. You will work along side the owner of the company at times.
Responsibilities: - Managing a daily prepared meals menu - Testing new dishes to add to the menu - Placing and receiving food orders from local vendors and distributors - Making the food from scratch using local produce - Cleaning kitchen after use and storing remaining food in walk in - Sealing food in environmentally friendly prepared meal containers and placing stickers on them - Making sure food safety guidelines are met - Monitors and maintains sanitation and cleaning schedule - Managing a food budget - Provides ideas that contribute to the growth of the business
Requirements: - Extensive food background - The ideal candidate would have a culinary degree - Passionate about cooking and local food - Demonstrated proficiency in the proper use of a dumpster, baler, slicers, knives, box cutters, and all related equipment. - Must have knowledge of food safety guidelines - Neurotic about cleanliness - Willing to work in a start up environment - Willing to work in a shared kitchen space - Experience placing food orders and managing a budget - Able to cook an eclectic mix of cuisines - Speaks English - Flexible Schedule - Must have valid driver's license
Hours/Start date: - 20 hours per week (subject to change based on success of business) - Store grand opening is January 4, 2010 so we are interviewing now to hire before the opening
