StarChefs.com is accepting applications for a marketing internship.
StarChefs.com, New York is a leading culinary magazine and the "hot jobs" for the foodservice industry. StarChefs has been in business for 7 years, and has been recognized in the media as the top food site, by USA Today, Lycos Best of the Web, US News & World Report and Brill's Content.
Interning with us will provide you substantive and challenging work experiences. You will have the opportunity to develop specific skills (i.e. research, writing, computer, presentation skills), as well as the opportunity to apply those skills writing articles and features for our magazine. We hope that by the end of your internship you will be better able to set realistic goals for projects, manage your time better, and have a formal portfolio of your work that you can show future employers as evidence of your work and accomplishments.
Because we are a small company (11 employees), you have the opportunity to really make an impact on the company and the service we provide. Internships are for 4-6 months and are NOT PAID. Internships can be eligible for college credit and you will receive letter of recommendation. Last year, StarChefs hired on 3 of it's interns for full-time employment.
In order to benefit from an internship with us you will need to be a self-starter capable of doing largely unsupervised work from your own computer. Depending on the position you take you will need strong writing and research skills, strong interpersonal skills, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a drive for results.
Please see what our summer Marketing Intern had to say about what the experience she has gained and if you are interested in working at StarChefs.com.
"...What did I do at StarChefs for the summer? Everything. Culinary SchoolFinder: I researched and databased information about over 1,000 culinary schools, designed the new Culinary Schools portion of the website, wrote and sent sales letters to all of the schools, and wrote and designed a brochure about the new SchoolFinder. Public Relations: Wrote and sent all of StarChefs press releases, and marketed and monitored StarChefs online press release submission tool. Affiliate Program: I researched different affiliate programs and program host companies, developed marketing materials for a new affiliate program and wrote the program's instructional copy for our site. Advertising: I researched and contacted print publications in major cities and created an advertising database of dates, rates, sizes, and specs. I cut some hot ad deals, too. Other: I made phone calls, read trade pubs, made powerpoints for the CEO to use in presentations, did researched, wrote some new copy for the site and for the JobFinder brochure and more. The real deal is that you'll get a lot of responsibility, and you'll do a lot. This is not a photocopy internship. This is an internship where, for a few months, you will really do the marketing for StarChefs. You'll have a lot of say-so, and that's what they want. They want a person who is at least a junior in college (they love grad students too), studying something somewhat related (I am a student at Cornell's Hotel School, other interns go to Georgetown and MIT), willing to take responsibility, willing to speak their mind, and with a love and knowledge of writing, the internet, food, restaurants, and chefs. This is a goal-oriented intern's dream, and the only frustration you'll find (after you've worked there a month) is that, although you have tons of responsibility, you've still got to report to someone higher up."
You will need to be organized, responsible, aggressive, out-going, enthusiastic, and able to work as part of a team. You will also need strong editorial and writing skills as well as an interest in the culinary world.
